Agent Skills & MCP
Install the /stitch agent skill playbooks and connect AI coding agents via the Stitch MCP server.
The @google/stitch CLI is built to work alongside your coding agent—whether you use Claude Code, Cursor, Gemini CLI, Antigravity, or VS Code.
Instead of memorizing every CLI flag yourself, install the bundled /stitch skill so your coding agent knows how to manage projects, write and sync DESIGN.md, capture live browser routes, and run local UI reviews.
Install the /stitch skill
Run stitch agent-skills add inside your project to write the /stitch skill playbooks into .agents/skills/stitch/:
stitch agent-skills add
If you want /stitch available in every repository on your machine, install it globally to ~/.agents/skills/stitch/:
stitch agent-skills add --user
Or target a specific agent directory such as .claude/skills/stitch:
stitch agent-skills add --dir .claude/skills/stitch
What the /stitch skill gives your agent
Once installed, you can invoke /stitch directly in your coding agent’s chat. Out of the box, the skill includes three core playbooks:
- Canvas & Screen Design (
.agents/skills/stitch/SKILL.md) — Creating projects, generating screens, uploading reference assets, and iterating withstitch edit screen. - Design System Sync (
.agents/skills/stitch/flows/design.md) — AuthoringDESIGN.mdfrom your codebase or a creative brief and binding it to your Stitch project. - Local UI Review (
.agents/skills/stitch/flows/review.md) — Capturing a live route from your local dev server and auditing its DOM and screenshot againstDESIGN.md.
Try asking your agent:
When you enable workspace features (stitch enable loop), the CLI automatically upgrades your installed .agents/skills/stitch directories to include the codebase prototyping playbook (flows/prototype.md) as well.
You can check where the skill is installed or update it to match your current CLI version at any time:
stitch agent-skills list
stitch agent-skills update
Register the Stitch MCP server
If you also want to expose Stitch tools over the Model Context Protocol (MCP), run stitch mcp install:
stitch mcp install
By default, stitch mcp install detects every supported editor on your machine and registers the stitch MCP server automatically.
Target a single editor
Pass --target to configure a specific editor (or add --dry-run to preview the JSON changes first):
stitch mcp install --target claude-code
stitch mcp install --target cursor
stitch mcp install --target gemini-cli
stitch mcp install --target antigravity
stitch mcp install --target vscode
stitch mcp install --target claude-desktop
If your MCP client uses a custom config file, point it at stitch mcp start over stdio:
{
"mcpServers": {
"stitch": {
"command": "stitch",
"args": ["mcp", "start"]
}
}
}
The MCP server exposes seven uniform tools that mirror the CLI grammar: stitch_find, stitch_get, stitch_create, stitch_edit, stitch_generate, stitch_delete, and stitch_url. For the full schema of each tool, check the MCP Tools Reference.
